Good Thing I was Planning on Baking

What is it about  stick of butter that my children find so irresistible?  Why is it when I have the forethought to set the butter out on the counter to soften, my children see it as invitation to squish it?

At least this time, they didn’t use their fingers and smear it all over the counters.

 squished butter

Thankfully, it wasn’t butter to be spread on bread, but instead I am hoping to bake some cookies this afternoon.

Too funny! It does look like that would be fun though. I can see why they are tempted, there is something satisfying about that :) Try getting them a water snake. I think I found one at Walgreens last year. They are so much fun you get to squish and have the fun of wondering where it will go rather than worrying about a mess. Or a stress reliever ball those are fun to squeeze too!

hehe I have heard so many butter stories I always soften mine right before I use it in the microwave. I’d love to say this is a wonderful precaution of mine but usually i forget to set it out.

i personally HATE touching butter. so i can’t relate to your kiddos totally. in fact, if Eli ever shows up with butter all over his hands, I might just have to take him to the back and spray him off. without actually touching him, of course. because that would be greasy and gross…

Wow, I had to laugh as I read this. My youngest has that same bizarre attraction for butter! I posted on it here: http://kitchensinkinc.blogspot.com/2009/10/my-lesson-for-day.html

:-) I don’t understand it at all!

I followed your link from We Are THAT Family, and have really enjoyed perusing your blog! Thanks for sharing.

Butter: nice. Ya know, it’s not really butter for my kids, but FLOUR! Oh, my daughter simply can’t resist it (regardless of the amount of baking soda or salt that it’s been mixed with, too!)…by the 5-licked-sticky-finger-full she regularly changes the chemical balance of every baked recipe around our house. I always forget, leave her unattended as the flour-wisker, and find her face, hands, and counter covered. A couple weeks ago we were making pancakes and, after I commandeered the bowl from her, I turned to see her full-face-down LICKING the streaks of flour off the counter! One girl’s trash is another girl’s treasure….and one girls tasteless, pasty powder gunk is another ones irresistible dessert, I guess. :)
