Sleep

I think I’ve mentioned before that my oldest three all share a room.  This week the kids have started taking turns sleeping with the baby.

Sunday night the boys got to sleep together.  My oldest was so excited about sharing a room with his little brother.  I couldn’t help but snap a picture as I peeked in on them before going to bed.

When I went to look in on the girls I found them both cuddled up together on the floor… it appears they decided to have a sleep over of their own!IMG_0655

The next night my oldest daughter wanted to sleep with the baby.  As she was getting ready for bed she told me to make sure when I put him to sleep that I put his pacifier where she could reach in the crib so that she could help him if he woke up.  She told me she’d take care of him and I wouldn’t have to get up.  One of the times when I went in to feed him, I found her by his crib giving him his pacifier and talking sweetly to him.  In the morning I found she had moved off of the bed and onto the floor so she could be closer to him. IMG_0727 I wonder how long it’ll be before all four of them are sleeping in the same room?!

My daughter sleeps with so many animals, pillows, dolls, and blankets in her bed, that sometimes when I go in to kiss her before I go to bed, I can’t find her.

One night I thought I saw her and then realized I almost kissed her cabbage patch doll.

Can you find her in the pile?  It reminds me of the old Where’s Waldo books.IMG_7962

Here’s a closer look… there she is!

Guess not much has changed from this picture taken a year and a half ago!

I went in to wake my daughter from nap time today and found her like this.

I’m not sure if she fell asleep while playing or if she was just doing all she could to keep herself from falling asleep.

Either way, looks rather uncomfortable to me.

Then there’s her sister.

We looked down during a soccer game a few weeks ago and found her like this.IMG_7007

Yes, that would be my youngest asleep ON the soccer field, during a game.

And, yes, I took a picture of her sleeping on the field, before I removed her.

Seems, if they are tired enough, my girls will sleep in the most unusual positions.

Here’s my daughter sleeping in her crib at 8 months old.

sleeping sitting up And here she is at 14 mths old.  Still enjoys sleeping “folded in half”, as we refer to it.

 favorite sleeping position

Earlier this week when my husband went in to kiss the kids goodnight, he found her at 3 and 1/2 sleeping in the very same position she favored as an infant.  IMG_2757 I would think with age this position would grow more impossible and uncomfortable.

Apparently my daughter’s week long rebellion was against sleeping alone in her crib and not on sleeping in general.

Tuesday was a break through day for us!

She napped and slept through the night without screaming for hours first.

As I said goodnight to her in her sister’s bed, she had the BIGGEST grin on her face.  Seriously, I have never seen a kid so excited about sleeping in a bed.

I did have to go in their twice because I heard them giggling and running around.  One time I caught her sitting up “reading” on her bed.  When I opened the door, she threw the book on the floor and laid down.

Um, nice try missie, but you are busted!

Scott had to go back a third time and he threatened to make her go back to her crib if she did not stay in bed.

We didn’t hear a peep from her the rest of the night!

When we went in to kiss them goodnight before we went to bed, we found her sleeping on her floor.

Naptime Wednesday also went well.  Though she was disappointed not to have her brother and sister napping with her.  (I have a strict, “keep them all separated at nap time” policy).   She cried for a little while and then she fell asleep.  (on the dog’s bed this time).  I’ll be honest I didn’t care whose bed she was sleeping on, just happy she was sleeping.

Tonight I had to go in only once to tell her to stay in bed.  After that all three of them were asleep without a fuss.

Apparently, she had decided she was done sleeping in her crib and she wanted in the room with her brother and sister.  And apparently, this little girl of mine has a strong will, as she was relentless in proving her point that she did.not.want.to.be.in.her.crib!

I have been planning to move all three of them in a room together b/c I didn’t want the youngest to miss out on the bonding that takes place during the whispering after lights out.  But, I had been planning to wait until we got bunk beds for the older two.    Seems, we can’t wait that long.

Luckily my middle child LOVES to sleep on the floor.  She did not bat an eye about giving up her bed for her little sister.  I took the crib mattress from the crib and put it on the floor for my 3 year old.  She is happily sleeping on it until we can find a bunk bed for them.

We still need to work on waking up and leaving the room quietly so as to not wake the others in the room, as this morning one child woke crying which quickly led to three children screaming before one of us could get out of bed and into their room to quiet them down.

But, all in all, it was the best night of sleep she and we  have had since we’ve been home from Texas last week

Scott and I see eye to eye on most things.  When it comes to parenting though, we have one major disagreement…

pajamas

I think they are cute and cuddly and so adorable.

Scott thinks they are impractical and a complete waste of time.  "Why do we need to change them just to sleep,"  He asks.

I have a hard time coming up with a real compelling reason.

"Because they look so cute in them," is typically my reply.

When Scott has bedtime duty he rarely thinks this is reason enough to go through the hassle of changing three kids out of their clothes and into another set of clothes.  He typically sends them to bed in diapers and the shirt they wore that day.

And I don’t complain, because I feel blessed to have a husband who willingly helps with the bedtime routine, who will let me go for a run while he gets the kids ready for bed and puts them to sleep.

But come on, don’t you agree… they look way cuter in their pjs?
